In June 1991, independence of Slovenia was proclaimed in front
of the state parliament in the centre of Ljubljana. The event
called for an inspiring visual backdrop, achieved with series
of temporary interventions in surrounding area, as well as
defining and positioning explicit state symbols in the square.
A mast with a flag originally 14 meters long was erected in
the axis of the parliament, and next to it a lime-tree, the
national symbol, was planted. With the lack of natural soil
in the existing square structure, a suspended cube with in-built
watering and heating system was incorporated into the adjoining
open atrium.
