As
the only square in Murska Sobota that can be used for public
events, the new Victory Square connects programs on both sides
of the square. In contrast with the voluminous Victory Monument
region, the new area is envisioned as a plane emphasizing the
adjoining programs. To the street, it is bordered by a straight
line of trees and a line of roses. Two principles unify the
square space; the first is one-level design: parking spaces
and sidewalks are both located on the same level, thus allowing
for an unobtrusive conversion from parking to urban/pedestrian
use in the evenings and on weekends, as well as spontaneous
transformation into event space. Parking spaces are delineated
unobtrusively. The second principle is the paving pattern. Grey
granite cubes form a fine, lace texture, the parking scheme
is outlined in red cubes. Another layer that unifies the plane
is based on fastest user movements across the surface, thus
creating a series of diagonals that introduce dynamics and enmesh
the square into a single space system.
